I’ve never played it but I know I probably should.

I tend to prefer RPG action based games. Pretty much anything from Bioware or Naughty Dog. I love a game where I can make story decisions and get in on the action. So anything with a good blend of the two are usually a hit with me!

I also just had to google it – I’m not a gamer so probably won’t have heard of a lot of good ones :’) It does sound fun, and it appears that a good strategy is needed to win. As scientists, good planning and strategy is often needed when planning out how to design a successful experiment. A good example of how you can transfer the same skills and thinking from video games to science ๐Ÿ™‚

Fortnite failed to hook me, think I was a bit grumpy over how they “borrowed” the idea from PUBG, but have been staying up too late too often playing Apex for the last month.
I did have to sit through a presentation where someone made a very bad attempt at comparing what they worked to Fortnight!

/WARNING:boring adult stuff from here on.

I think it’s important to be aware of the situation that a live game like Fortnite is made in, especially when it has a lot of the same problems we do in scientific research.

A lot of the people making the game work up to 100 hours per week to make sure there’s new stuff for to keep you playing. They’ll do this because they love working in games but also because it’s a very competitive genre atm and their bosses feel they need to keep making new stuff to keep players engaged. This obviously isn’t very healthy for the people working on the game.
I think this is important because us in research are also often caught in the same trap. We often work too long hours because we love what we do but also because there’s a lot of pressure and competition to find out new things so we can get more funding for our work or to get new research jobs.
Personally I’m very fortunate with who I work for at the moment that my boss will tell me off when I get carried away and stay late too often!

Yeah it’s a lot of fun. A few years ago I played a lot of Titanfall 2 so i’m really excited to see Apex Legends getting a lot of love.

I’ve been into computer games for ages. My first console was a Nintendo NES, I used my Christmas money to buy it, i must’ve played Super Mario Bros till my thumbs fell off!

Some of my favorites have been the Fallout series, Gears of War and Titanfall 2. I don’t have as much time to play as I used to but I find smaller Indie games on Steam or my phone to be really creative and well designed for short plays.
