Thank you for the question! It has been really interesting working in rural parts of India. The real surprise for me has been the willingness of village healthcare workers to learn about high-risk pregnancies, and the motivation of the rural healthcare workers to engage with new technologies. I have felt very welcomed into the communities and the doctors I work with. Working in rural India can be quite isolating at times, and at certain times of the year, it gets really hot (> 47C!) and there is no air conditioning! One of the areas I work in is called the “chilli capital” of India – and the food is VERY spicy, which can be hard to digest sometimes! I think the most rewarding part, has been to learn about the local challenges facing the villagers and discover the strategies to strengthen the health system. Hope that helps answer your question!
